Easter was a ton of fun on Long Island with the whole family.  We had everyone there, except for my uncle Kenny, but hey, eight out of nine ain't bad.  Nana looked better than ever, Dad and Grandpa tried a wide assortment of fine Scotches, and Charlie beat us all at egg spinning.  Yes, egg spinning.  I might put up some video of that soon.  The weather was very nice, too.  Slightly warmer, no more snow on the ground, just how I like it.  Tons of fun, I just wish I had taken notes because I know I'm forgetting a lot of stuff.

I also wish I had taken a lot more pictures.  We stayed at a brand new Hilton hotel that had a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, dishes, glasses, and assorted pots and pans for our use.  And for a really good price.  I swear, no one had stayed in this room yet.  Dad showed how the grout on the shower tiles was still dry enough to come off on your fingers.  Real nice, I think I know where we're staying from now on.

I've got some funny video ideas in the oven, but two of the three I've been pondering recently still need to be "written."  For the other, let's just say that if I approach you with a Discman in hand, you'd better not be bashful...

And now it's time to bug Darryl to find out when we're going to see Sin City.

This is what I'm doing for Easter

Serious Business.  //  3.23.05  [Music: White Stripes - Elephant]
Last night there was a Selectmen Meeting and I taped it myself.  The only thing that I didn't get done like usual was do it live.  But I think I proved to myself that I know my stuff.  I haven't watched the taped result, but I'm sure everything was as good as usual.

So my car situation is all squared away.  The power steering seems to have been a known problem, so they had the part on hand.  I also had an old problem that apparently had to do with part of my gas line.  Greg had figured that a chipmunk had gotten in there.  Now, that may seem like a typical Greg assumption, but this time around he was pretty much right.  Turned out mice were to blame, they got in and chewed a hole into it.  I'm not kidding, this is what the service guys at Luddy said.  Dad immediately assumed it was because Wolfie is lazy and doesn't bother to kill mice, but chances are it was the rodents down at the store (they only hang out in the back - I have NEVER seen any small furry animals in the store, "belee dat").

So seeing as how my car was at the shop, I had to walk to work yesterday.  I figured that since it was a gorgeous day out and that it's Spring Training, I might as well try and run some of the way.  So I'd estimate that I ran a good deal of the way there, and my legs have been killing me all day today.  I walk like a robot.  However, I do not have metal claws like a robot.

Neal just sent me this fantastic link, only further proving that the best place to watch TV is in Japan

Anybody in town wanna see The Ring Two?  Let me know.

And the fights... OH, THE FIGHTS!  //  3.20.05  [Music: White Stripes - First Album]
'Friday Night Fights' was a huge success.  Everything went well, the fights were pretty good, and it was overall the most fun I've had in a while.  I even got Greg to help out.  The two of us shot the action on the apron of the ring so we could get right in there for the action.  Mike did a good job of calling the action, and I got to meet Kevin, who, as it turns out, is a fellow Mount graduate (they're EVERYWHERE!) and also enjoys the music of Television and the Strokes.  He offered me a gig in Boston at the 48 Hour Film Festival.  That should be a lot of fun, too.  I can't wait to see the program when we run it.  I'll fill everyone in on that when I know (probably tomorrow night).

As a correction, the St. Patrick's Day program was the sixth grade and not the first grade.  Pshaw!

Anyhow, I felt like a retard today.  I somehow managed to leave my keys in the ignition overnight.  Not only that, but in the "listen to the radio" position.  So as Fran and I hopped in the car to go to Palm Sunday mass, I discovered the battery was dead.  The day before that, I was having power steering problems.  What the hell is going on?  Hopefully I can get it fixed quickly tomorrow.

Alright then... Catch you all later.  I'm just hoping they replay some of the Rocky movies tonight.

Greg and I saw Million Dollar Baby last night.  I thought it was outstanding.  Not as good as Mystic River was, but still great.  Clint Eastwood really is one of the best directors working today, and his performance was nothing to sneeze at, either.  Hillary Swank was pretty good, too.  I think she's getting typecast into these types of roles because she isn't conventionally feminine.  She was rather impressive athletically throughout the film, though, and you couldn't help but like her character.  Morgan Freeman is always great no matter what he does, and his performance here was no exception.  I've heard a lot of critics saying that no matter what they try to say about the film, they can't do it justice.  And it's true.  It's a complex and satisfying film, technically and performance-wise, and a fantastic screenplay to boot.

Tomorrow's St. Patrick's Day, and what would St. Patty's day be without the first grade recital?  That's what I'm going to do for Channel 11 tomorrow.  It's a rite of passage, basically, for the kids and for the cable guys.

I really gotta stop writing every six days, I can't remember anything I would want to talk about.  Well, Robert Blake just got acquitted.  What's up with that?

Fran's Confirmation was this weekend.  George was her sponsor, and the ceremony was very nice.  Much better than my overblown Confirmation at the Centrum...  I'll get the pictures up soon.

Last night I got back from work and started typing for about an hour and a half, writing this long article about the cancellation of Star Trek: Enterprise.  Thing is, I didn't realize just how much I had written until I got up this morning and brought it up to keep working on it.  I couldn't believe how much crap I had written.  It was one of those times that I sit there and realize that I do indeed know too much about Star Trek for my own good.  So in the next couple of days I'll try to shave some paragraphs off the article and post it.  I'm trying to make it "user friendly" for most of my readers, because they don't care about Trek as it is.  Still, I think the article will be funny, and informative from the perspective of someone who has studied the TV business.

I found out that guero is a slang term that means "white boy."  Beck used it because that's what the kids called him when he was growing up in LA.  There's a great article about Beck and his new album in the New York Times magazine from last Sunday.

A week from tonight, I'll be helping to do the state police boxing event for Channel 11.  I'm really pumped for that one.  If we do everything like Mike wants to, it'll probably be pretty damn cool.  I watched some boxing on Showtime the other night to get some ideas, too.  I wanna get in the corner between rounds... "Cut me, Mick."  Speaking of Stallone, I caught The Contender on Monday.  MUCH better than Oscar de la Hoya's awful show on Fox, but you could have made a show about me and Nicky playing "Fight Night" on PS2 and it would have been more compelling.  Not only does Contender have Sly, but they've also got Sugar Ray Leonard and Mark "Survivor" Burnett is producing.

Play it cool, Zoot.Gary says I remind him of Zoot, the Muppet from Dr. Teeth's band.  He had been saying all week, "You know, you remind me of the blue saxophone player from The Muppet Show, all you need is the hat."  I could vaguely picture him and I didn't really get it then.  Actually, I still don't get it, but Zoot is a cool guy so I'll stick with it.

Beck's new album is due in a week or two, which has me pumped.  I love that guy, I remember Eric and I thinking, "He'd be, like, the coolest guy to hang out with."  Judging by how his band often becomes some strange kind of a posse when they're on tour, I think that theory would prove true.  But it's called Que Onda Guero, which I believe has no meaning whatsoever.  If you can shed any light on this matter, use the board...

It's been a while since I put up some neat links, so I'll hit you with 'em right now.

  • Counterfeit Mini Coopers - I saw an ad today and for a moment had no idea what to think.  When it was all over, I thought it was the most clever car ad I've seen in my entire life (and maybe the funniest).  This here is the link to its hilarious site.
  • Censored Looney Toons Cartoons - Stumbled on this one today, a database of Looney Toons edits that more often than not remove politically incorrect material for today's audiences.  Sure, stuffing a lit bomb down someone's throat is okay.  I just happened to find the site funny because I remember seeing these cartoons 15 or more years ago and I can still remember some of these bits that had been removed since.  Of course, I think it's probably best to take out all the blackface gags and such.
  • Yahoo Netrospective - This kicks some serious ass.  The other day, Yahoo®™ Inc. LLC Ltd. celebrated their tenth anniversary, and presented this great look at 100 moments that defined the Internet over the past decade.  Quite a trip down memory lane, and lots of fun to navigate.
  • Worcester Pro Baseball - I'm keeping an eye on this one, for obvious reasons.  Having a minor league team in Worcester is something I've been hoping for for a long time.  There really isn't much there right now, so hit up the Can-Am League's official site for more.

That should keep you all occupied for a while.  Me, I'm gonna go do something else now.

Happy March, everybody.  Right.  Okay, then, now that we've got that out of the way, time for today's post.

I'm sick and tired of the winter now.  I hear we've got another storm heading for us next week, and wouldn't you know it, Dad will be out of town.  He's been off on one trip after another for work, first to South Carolina about three weeks ago.  Then he went to Dallas last week and they lost his bags.  He only got them back today, and he's got to drive up to Portland for a week of hard selling in a couple of days.  He's actually going to miss Fran's Confirmation, if you can believe that.  He wouldn't do that if he didn't have to, of course, but this is the biggest trade show his company has all year, so it's pretty much a foregone conclusion.  Blah.

Work's been pretty wacky lately.  I have to admit, I had been getting fed up with the state of the store a week ago.  We were grossly understocked and morale was starting to dive.  Also, they brought in the new Hannaford brand plastic bags that we are told to automatically use.  Sounds great, I'm sure that everyone is thrilled that they're going to get tons of plastic now... but don't worry, we've still got paper bags, you just have to ask for it now.  I can usually remember the folks that prefer paper, anyway (approximately 70% of customers) so it really ain't no thing.

But back to being fed up.  The other day Mom came back from the store and said that things had gone 180 and that it was really quite good again.  I was a little skeptical, but we were indeed back up to snuff so to speak.  We even had wedges of locatelli cheese, AKA grated cheese of the gods.

I didn't see the Oscars the other night because I didn't see the movies that got nominated.  I just might do an NP1 Movie Awards article to hand it out the way you're supposed to.  I'd do it now, but it's late.

Alright, fools, I'm outta here.
