11.29.04 ... Catorce!  [Music: U2 - How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb]
Sorry about the lack of updates over the past week.  Work was crazy, as can be expected, and the computer adventures continued.

Thanksgiving was great, even though we did it on our own this year.  The food was probably the best we've made in a few years for Thanksgiving, which was a bonus.  Fran and I visited Anne and Shaun, and the rest of the Glanville clan for dessert and watched the Cowboys and Bears play.  Speaking of football, the annual Victory game was spectacular.  We had a very good turnout and the game was exciting.  My team ended up winning it in pretty dramatic fashion.  I picked off a pass late in the game, and you could say that it was one of the pivotal moments in the game.  I didn't get very much video, however, but there's still a follow up movie in the works, don't you worry.  The question is, when would I be able to upload it?

That's because the modem issue remains... Dad and I reformatted the computer the other night and did a clean XP install.  Unfortunately, it didn't fix the modem issue and nothing I've read about in troubleshooters and on Internet has helped much... Mr. Bruso's going to try to help us with it soon, so it should be like old times... :)  Otherwise, the computer runs great, as it should after reformatting.

And one more thing...  tomorrow is Sara's birthday!  Happy Birthday, kid!

11.22.04 ... I'm as strong as the Hulk!  [Music: U2 - The Joshua Tree]
Well, the modem is still slow, and I'd be looking for alternative methods for getting it back up and running at a normal speed, but it would seem that a reformat is in order.  That means it's time to start backing stuff up and putting it on CDs before taking the plunge.  We actually might hand it over to someone else so I don't mess it up.  But that's all on that for now.  If you don't see NP1 updated for a few days, you'll know why.

But man oh man, the new version of Movie Maker on this computer kicks ass.  It's not like Final Cut or Premiere, but it's much better than I anticipated.  I can't wait to put some of these oft-abused video effects into my movies.  STAR WIPE!  STAR WIPE!  The cornier they are, the harder I laugh.

I've also got Office XP now, and I'm doing the site on the new Front Page now.  I'm hoping that it's got a couple of features that I've wanted to integrate into the site for a long time.  If I knew what to call them I'd tell you what they were.

11.19.04 ... It must be the future!  [Music: Modest Mouse - Good News...]
The other night Dad picked up Windows XP, and I've been working on getting the computer up to speed... installing more RAM, fixing the printer connection again, stuff like that.  I'm pretty happy with the way everything's going now, except for the modem, which for some reason will only connect at 14 kbps.  This makes connecting to Internet pretty much useless unless you have a lot of patience, and come on, who does when it comes to computers?  Nobody, that's who!  So Dean is trying to help me on that front.  If anybody has any other bright ideas, lemme know over on the board...

That same night, I came home to find Dad trying to put the snowplow into the back of his van.  We plow with Mom's Blazer, but we had to somehow get the plow down to Luddy's to fix it, so we threw it in there, sticking halfway out the open hatch.  The dome light wouldn't even go out.  It was kind of fun, though, and I felt like a burglar when we got there and put the plow on.

I trained on the new futuristic registers today, too.  They are all touchscreens, and you would have to be a real idiot to screw things up with them.  It'll be like life on the Enterprise!

I'll leave it at this for the evening.  Hopefully the modem will be fixed soon and NP1 will resume almost uninterrupted.  I'm looking forward to making another video, and XP comes with the newest version of Movie Maker.  It's probably the same exact thing, but it's shiny.

11.12.04 ... They're at it again  [Music: Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell]
Woke up appalled this morning to find that it was snowing.  In fact, it's 10:30 pm and it's still going.  Non-stop all day, and I've said pretty much every hour, "It's gonna be done snowing pretty soon."   Well, it never did.  Oh well...  I guess that we're right back where we were a few months ago.  It was pretty, I'll give it that, but come on, people.

The first VFL video has been doing pretty well in the download department.  I can't tell how many times it's been DL'd, but I can gauge the bandwidth used since I uploaded it, and I'd say it's one of the most successful movies I've done so far... even though I haven't received much feedback from people.  *cough*

I've got tomorrow off... first Saturday off in God knows how long.  My head's gonna explode!

11.9.04 ... This has potential  [Music: R.E.M. - Chronic Town]

Check it out!  The latest addition to NP1 Films is here, and I call it VFL Training Camp!  If you wanna know what it's all about, just click on the handsome chap above this passage!  I spent the better part of the day yesterday working on filming that, and after tech directing the school committee meeting last night for Channel 11, I edited it together.  I think it's my most complex video yet, so I hope you enjoy it.

Ok, then, what else is happening?  I've been seeing all this Halo-related programming on G4 Tech TV today (I hate the new name since the merger...) since Halo 2 is coming out today.  Seeing as how I'm a PS2 player, I can't play Halo whenever I want, and it's pretty much the only game I see XBox has going for it.  Ah well, I've got GTA: San Andreas, so I'm not complaining too much.  All they really need to do is make a movie out of Halo in Hollywood, it's got one of the best sci-fi stories to come along in a real long time.

So check out the latest video.  There should be footage from the Thanksgiving game in a few weeks!

11.7.04 ... Where's my Super Suit?!  [Music: U2 - The Joshua Tree]
Saw The Incredibles last night, which turned out to be a very good take on the superhero mythos.  You could say that it was engineered mostly to be a kids' movie, but there are plenty of sly jokes throughout that will keep you laughing.  The animation was mostly out of the cartoonish school, but it was certainly impressive.  All of the characters were a lot of fun, too, especially Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone.  He was pretty much a black version of the X-Men's Iceman, but that's okay.  All of the characters were pretty much taken from popular superheroes from the get-go, but it was all in good fun.  Only gripe I had with the evening was that I heard the Star Wars: Episode III trailer was going to run with The Incredibles (as the other two episodes ran with Pixar movies).  Ah well, I'm downloading the Revenge of the Sith teaser at this very moment, so I'll let you all know what I think in a future geek-out.

I'm working hard on an old music article I had started a month ago, and I might have it done by the end of the week.  Also, I've got a couple of really good video projects planned for NP1 Films, so keep checking back for them.

Looking forward to a big week at Channel 11... and I've got the keys now!

11.4.04 ... A winner is Bush!  [Music: Radiohead - OK Computer]
Thankfully, the election didn't take a month like it did last time, and I'm sure everyone can agree that this is a good thing.  You all know I'm glad about the outcome and here's hoping that it is indeed for the best.

Meanwhile, not very far away, I created a banner ad for my site, which may or may not end up on many websites to help promote NP1.  Here's the ad now!

That took me about twenty minutes to make.  I think, I wasn't counting or anything.  But I am proud of it... animated GIFs are fun.

The Internet has also found another way to make me incredibly happy... Pokey the Penguin is once again having adventures!  I'm super psyched... hopefully Steve "The Authors" Havelka has plenty of episodes in store for us.  Also, it seems there is "New Arctic Circle Fun" to be had at another new Havelka-helmed project.

So I guess that's all for tonight.  I'm gonna go make some dinner, don't know what, but it's gonna taste GOOD.

11.1.04 ... Ready for action  [Music: The Strokes - Is This It]
So tomorrow is the big day, Election Day, and it's time for another incredibly close contest.  I haven't bothered to talk politics very much lately, but that doesn't mean that I don't care.  I do indeed care, and I'm going to make my endorsement right here tonight...

Vote Bush
THIS MAN WANTS YOUR VOTE

I LOVE that picture.  That was taken back when the president was going to Harvard for busines.  He just looks like a cool dude in that shot, though, with his shirt open and his hair all crazy.  But anyone who knows me knows my story and my reasons for voting the way I do.  I'm not gonna tell YOU how to vote, I just hope that if you do vote (and I hope you all do, if you can) that you have done your homework and don't just give in to all the hype generated by documentaries made by both sides, various news networks, the Internet, etc.  Also, if you don't vote, P. Diddy will kill you.

So that's all that.  Yesterday was Halloween.  I put some fun pictures on the moblog, but not too many, mostly because people didn't dress up enough at the store.  LAME!
