Yo, yo, yo, what up!
It must have been sometime in 2000 or 2001 when I first clicked a link to a site known as SuperGreg.com and the true potential of the Internet was shown to me. A man with a unibrow with a bright red Adidas track suit was scratching some fly breaks on his custom-made turntables, talkin' smack and keeping it real in a somewhat European flavor. There was something about that site that made me smile. And I wasn't the only one getting down with the Super Greg concept... it became a sudden phenomenon. Where'd this guy come from? What was his drive?
A few days after I discovered Super Greg, it was revealed that he was actually just a tool of The Man, a character created for a Lee Jeans campaign. The TV spots featured that creepy Buddy Lee doll facing off against three different and equally quirky characters. I forget the names of the other guys that Lee made up, but they were pretty funny. But they just weren't Super Greg. Not by a long shot.
So why was Super Greg so damned popular to begin with? Well, first of all, he had two hilarious videos. And wouldn't you know it? I've archived them for you right here, baby...
Video Number One -
Da Number #1
Video Number Two -
Lovin' U (Very Rare)
Those videos became a sensation and to this day, people are still looking for them, and that's why I've brought them to you right here. Another reason I think Super Greg managed to catch on was the fact that his site was similar to lots of other things that have caught on with the Internet crowd... from the lovable Turk Mahir to the All Your Base fad, Super Greg is right up there with other somewhat incomprehensible yet completely funny inside jokes.
"So," you might ask, "where can I find this Super Greg and his Internet funpage?" Well, friends, I'm sorry to report that supergreg.com is GONE. However, I know where you can find a mirror of it, as well as other Super Greg stuff. Just point your browser in the direction of The Number 1 Super Greg Tribute Site they'll do the rest!
Hopefully, someday, Super Greg will return and reinvent what it means to be a great man once again. For now, I guess we can only enjoy the movies he gave us and just remember to "Stay Fresh!"
